a dangerous man with lots of resources - 2.9.03
Darkest days
The current administration seems intent on bringing the USA into some of its darkest days ever. It's not at all clear they can, or will be stopped; even by the Belgians. It's not even clear that the majority of Americans even see what's happening.
The war in Iraq will be a disaster for people there, but who knows, perhaps a new regime in Iraq will in the long term prove more beneficial than harmful. Perhaps it just isn't realistic to leave a megalomaniac dictator in control of a significant portion of the world's petroleum reserves. Okay, I'm a realistic guy, it's highly regrettable, but there is an argument for doing it.
But while that's going on, the Bush administration is taking advantage of the fact that that public's attention is diverted to make a morass out of just about ever facet of the American way of life. Speaking of immense resources being controlled by dangerous people...
The economy, the budget, health care, the environment, your rights, the arts, public lands, the financial condition of local and state governments...is there anything good in America that the Bush administration isn't attacking? Not to mention what he's already done to damage the image of our great nation throughout the rest of the globe. If he woke up tomorrow morning and suddenly realized that he's simply not capable of being the POTUS and resigned (a pleasant fantasy, that) the damage already done would takes years to repair.
If you're reading this article, and agree at all I have only one thing to say to you. Come on people, get out there and VOTE! If you don't like the candidates, then run for office or at least get somebody decent to run for office. Going into that booth and casting your ballot may seem almost tedious, but look who is running this country. Are you happy with that?
