Fun with the Digicam
The best thing about digital photography is that there's no film. Electrons are cheap, so there's no need to carefully compose every shot you take. Just fire away - mostly it'll be pure garbage, but you're bound to get lucky on occasion and the bad shots are easy to kill.
I use a Nikon CoolPix 950; it's a good little camera though the auto-focus is a bit twitchy and the flash is usually too harsh to get anything nice. It's chock-full-of functions, and the only way to learn to use them is to play around. Recently I was playing with the manual settings, with a slow shutter speed in low light conditions. Instead of trying to hold the camera still I intentionally moved it, trying to produce smooth lighting effects.
Kind of silly I'll admit, but what's a bigdumbHoosier to do to fill up those dreary February days? Here are some of the results.

Crystal ball, dolly in close.

Crystal ball, dolly out fast.

Pan past a candle in glass.

Rotation, red candle.
