Edge of the Prairiethe sand prairies and savannas of the Chicago region

    Asclepias amplexicaulis
    Sand Milkweed

This milkweed grows in bare sand; the flowers are often eaten (probably by deer)before it has set seed. Look for it in old fields and at the edges of blowouts in dunes. It can be easily identified by the wavey leaves.
