Edge of the Prairiethe sand prairies and savannas of the Chicago region

    Pyrus melanocarpa
    Black Chokeberry

This is a medium sized shrub that can be found in boggy thickets at the edge of marsh areas. This photograph shows Pyrus melanocarpa in flower, which occurs in May.

Pyrus melanocarpa

This shrub is an excellent candidate for horticultural use, especially for naturalizing borders in areas with acid soil.
